FORMAT International Photography Festival is one of the biggest photography festivals in the UK. Their 2015 edition, which launched on the 13th March in Derby centred around the theme of ‘evidence’. This year’s FORMAT is bigger than ever with over 200 photographers, guest curators and interactive projects taking place. What’s more, FORMAT15 is becoming even more international, and features a strong Polish presence.

8. “FINE GESTURE” – THE CONVERSATION WITH MARCIN MACIEJOWSKI
The point of departure for the paintings was my interest in art, not only from the perspective of an artist, but also a spectator. Cultured people discuss their artistic impressions with each other. I am alone in my studio, I have nobody to share my impressions with. Therefore, I started to “talk to the painting”, in other words to create paintings out of my own thoughts and impressions…

9. EXCITING DISCOVERY IN SKOPJE! CONTEMPORARY LYNX IN CONVERSATION WITH KINGA NETTMANN–MULTANOWSKA
Over 200 Polish works in one location, outside the Polish boarders. They are a part of Polish donations for Skopje [then a part of Yugoslavia] after the tragic earthquake that took place in July 1963. The earthquake destroyed the whole city and turned it into rubble in a matter of seconds.

10. KAROLINA JONDERKO – PORTRAITS OF TIME
She was a participant of the Napo Images program, which aims to support young photographers. What  distinguishes her photographs is their huge emotional load, and their simplicity, which coincides with their message, and even reinforces it.
