Beginning of December, all the key players in the art world are in Miami. That’s because Art Basel Miami Beach and more than ten other satellite art fairs are taking place at the same time in diverse and sometimes unexpected locations. The satellite art fairs have been mushrooming across the city—from South Beach to Wynwood and new neighbourhoods such as Little Haiti. The Miami Art Week is both an impressive and overwhelming event. The competition to sell the artwork is fierce because it’s impossible to see everything. The difference between the art fairs in Miami compared to any other location is that in Miami, it’s not only about the transactions, deals, and networking. The atmosphere seems to be more relaxed for the visitors but also among the art professionals. The setting where palm trees are everywhere, sand and beach are so close and nightlife unforgettable, is a reminder that art is not only serious business but can also be great fun. The sun and the hassle-free vibe encourage rest on the beach and party at night. Maybe for the same reason, art galleries are bringing to Miami contemporary art which is somewhat quirky, funky and playful, often adopting pop-art style.

Miami Art Week is not only about the fairs, though. It’s also an opportunity to visit permanent features of the Miami art scene; such as the famous Rubell private art collection or the Bass Museum of Art.

Contemporary Lynx team took part in Art Basel Miami Beach for the first time. We proudly presented the latest issue of our print magazine at the press booth. Contemporary Lynx Magazine was also included in the guest pack gifted to around 140 exhibitors of the Untitled Art Fair taking place at the iconic Ocean Drive. We also visited other fairs, with a particular focus on NADA – New Art Dealers Alliance, where we met many art galleries and artists from Poland.
