Artgenève 2017: Agnieszka Brzeżańska

January 26, 2017 - January 29, 2017

Kasia Michalski Gallery at Artgenève 2017

Kasia Michalski Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the artgenève 2017 art fair with works by three of the gallery’s represented artists: Agnieszka Brzeżańska, Damir Očko and Angelica Teuta, as well as a collaboration with Gregor Różański.

Interested in contemporary ecological practices, Agnieszka Brzeżańska employs painting, drawing, collage, photography, as well as textile and ceramics to build narratives on the Earth and its feminine connotations, bringing to the limelight a whole gamut of registers of knowledge, from physics and philosophy to systems of cognition marginalized by modern science. At artgenève, a set of photographs, drawings, ceramics and textiles refers to the basic natural elements, while digital collages represent the artist’s interest in avant-garde dance practices.

Similarly, Angelica Teuta is fascinated by the archetypical symbols and relationships between nature, space and human well-being, and creates site-specific installations, objects and collages reflecting her D-I-Y approach to art and her nomadic status as an artist. Her approach is represented by a diptych and a sculpture recently presented at her solo show at the gallery in November 2016, as well as an installation utlizing an overhead projector, creating an abstract “window” opening up for a distant landscape.

Damir Očko’s research-based practice and multilayered body of work includes film, works on paper, pieces of music and poetry, engaging viewers both on an emotional and analytical level. The artist forms complex narratives that address the need for unity in a society impacted by various oppressive physical codes. The collages presented at artgenève document and re-interpret the creative investigations developed in the main film oeuvre of the artist – including his production for the Venice Biennale.

The booth will be concluded with #Forever, a sculpture by Gregor Różański carved in Greek marble from the ancient quarry of Thassos, the symbol of transcience becomes something concrete and permanent, rendering visible the precarity of our times.
