13TH “VISTULA” FESIVAL IN MOSCOW

The dates for the 13th ‘Vistula’ Festival in Moscow have been set!

After careful consideration and long weeks of anticipation the ‘Vistula’ Polish Film Festival set off on a cinematic journey around the world. From June to December 2020 it will visit Russia, Georgia, Belarus, Croatia, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The 13th, main edition of the ‘Vistula’ Festival will run from August 27 to September 3 at Moscow ‘5 Zvezd Paveletskaya’ and the ‘Tretyakov Gallery’ cinema theatres. Subsequently, in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Moscow, we will present a retrospective of Janusz Majewski’s works at Tretyakov Gallery from November 25-29.

Despite the difficult global context, we have prepared an incredible lineup for our viewers, where everyone will be able to find something to their taste. The Feature Film Competition will present 9 latest, excellent Polish productions, including the titles of widely acknowledged artists such as ‘Corpus Christi’ by Jan Komasa and ‘Mr. Jones’ by Agnieszka Holland, as well as sensational debuts, including ‘Supernova’ by Bartosz Kruhlik or ‘The Iron Bridge’ by Monika Jordan-Mlodzianowska. The main Competition will also showcase films made by the directors appreciated at previous editions of the ‘Vistula’ Festival: ‘Mr. T.’ by Marcin Krzysztalowicz.

The Panorama of Polish Cinema section will feature latest Polish feature productions, diversified in terms of genre and subject, including ‘Proceder’ by Michal Wegrzyn, ‘I Am Lying Now’ by Pawel Borowski and ‘The Taste of Pho’ directed by Mariko Bobrik.

Doc film enthusiasts are welcome to explore Poland ‘zwith the documentary block and its 5 great titles: ‘Of Animals and Men’ by Lukasz Czajka, ‘The Blue Scallywags’ by Cezary Grzesiuk, ‘The Last Mountain’ by Dariusz Zaluski,’Compulsory Figures’ by Ewa Kochanska and ‘Symphony of the Ursus Factory’ by Jasmin Wojcik.

As 2020 was announced “The Year of Leopold Tyrmand”; we would like to introduce our viewers this outstanding Polish writer in a special section “The Man With the White Eyes” presenting two documentary films about the writer’s life and work – “The Man With the White Eyes”; by Jerzy Sztwiertnia and “The American shore of Leopold Tyrmand”; by Stefan Chazbijewicz. We will also screen two feature productions based on scripts by Leopold Tyrmand: “Yesterday In Fact” by Jan Rybkowski, as well as “swimming”; novel from “Three Tries”; by Czeslaw Petelski, Ewa Petelska and Stanisław Lenartowicz.

We have planned a special screening of a documentary “Ingarden”; directed by Wojciech Szulczynski, dedicated to Roman Ingarden, Polish philosopher, creator of the “second phenomenological school”;.

The program encompasses a retrospective of Janusz Majewski’s works as well. In the section created in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Moscow, the audience will be able to watch as many as thirteen titles, including the latest film “Black Mercedes”, ‘The Eccentrics: The Sunny Side of the Street’, ‘Lesson of a Dead Language’, ‘The Gordon Case’ or ‘The Criminal Who Stole a Crime’.

Also, together with the Polish Institute in Moscow, we will organize the ‘Theater on the Screen’ series, to include ‘Duo, a Recipe For Love’ by Adam Sajnuk, ‘Summer’ by Jan Englert and ‘Alice in Nightmareland’ by Piotr Domalewski.

At the weekend family screenings, the youngest cinema enthusiasts will be given the possibility to watch the legendary “Reksio”directed by Lechoslaw Marszalek. A bit older viewers might enjoy “The Day of Chocolate” by Jacek Piotr Blawut.

The Festival lineup will traditionally include the best student etudes of the Krzysztof Kieslowski Film School and the Munk Studio. The 13th “Vistula” with its rich screening schedule and numerous accompanying events will certainly provide the viewers with unforgettable experience around Polish culture.
