Lynx Academy FREE online mentoring programme suited for UK-based visual artists

Are you looking to kickstart your career as a visual artist? Do you feel stuck with your art practice? Do you want to work effectively with curators and arts professionals and learn how to secure funding for your exhibition?

The process of entering the art world and forging a professional career can be challenging especially in the face of the pandemic. LYNX ACADEMY is offering a FREE online mentoring programme suited for UK-based visual artists of all disciplines.

If you are an early career artist, art student or recent art graduate, these sessions are just for you! Book your 1-hour slot with one of four experts of your choice to discuss any burning issues that you may have regarding making artworks, exhibition planning, portfolio reviews, writing artist statements, funding bids, residency applications and much more. Each of the mentor proposed an area of expertise to address your specific challenges or questions. Have a look at the programme’s details below.

  • Short information about your work and practice.
  • Two session topics you are most interested in covering.
  •  An explanation of how the session could be helpful to you.

We will let you know the outcome of your application by 3 March. Sessions will run between 4 and 25 March.

MENTORS: 

Marek Wolynski 

London-based creative professional passionate about supporting high calibre projects and innovation. He has 10+ years of experience within the art world and creative industries in various capacities, including as a creative producer, gallery manager, curator, content creator, and engagement and development manager. Marek has managed commercial gallery operations, immersive exhibitions, live events, publishing projects, funding applications, and museum retrospectives. The projects he has worked on include the largest exhibition of Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest organised to date; a multi-sensory experience within a cave boasting the UK’s only examples of Ice Age Rock Art; an art show at the European Parliament; charity art auctions organised in collaboration with Forbes Magazine and more. Lately, Marek has supported a number of organisations and individuals in acquiring public funding for their projects. He has overseen successful applications for the UE Creative Europe grants, Arts Council England, European Cultural Foundation, and International Visegrad Fund, among others.

Areas for the mentoring sessions: 

  • Navigating the art world: successful collaborations with art organisations and other creative professionals.  
  • Arts Funding: effective strategies and methods for acquiring public funding for your art projects. 
  • Exhibition planning: working with curators and arts professionals in order to ensure that both the work and artist’s profile are presented adequately.

Dominik Czechowski 

Independent curator, researcher and writer based in London with wide experience working with artists in devising, producing and managing contemporary exhibitions, projects and installations.  He has held curatorial positions at Hayward Gallery, Arnolfini, Calvert 22 Foundation and Barbican Art Gallery and has curated exhibitions, performances and public programmes for institutions such as The Freud Museum, The Poetry Library and Liverpool Biennial. He is an editor of and contributor to artist publications and exhibition catalogues as well as magazines such as MAP, Foam and Art Monthly. He is a member of the AICA-UK.

Areas for the mentoring sessions: 

  • Curatorial advice: exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions; commissioning new artworks, performances, public programmes.
  • Digital/online exhibitions: selection and editing of images/audio and video files/etc.
  • Writing: artist statements, funding bids, residency applications, and more. 

Sylwia Krason 

Founder and director of Contemporary Lynx – the independent arts organisation based in London since 2013. Editor-in-chief of the print magazine Contemporary Lynx and the online monthly magazine Contemporary Lynx (www.contemporarylynx.co.uk). The author of the programme of the workshops. Conference speaker and member of jury panels. Art historian and author of texts about art. Holds a Master of Arts degree in Arts Policy & Management with a specialisation in curating contemporary art from the University of London, Birkbeck College (2012) and Master of Arts in History of Art from Jagiellonian University in Cracow (2008).

Areas for the mentoring sessions: 

  • The common mistake while putting together portfolio/things you can’t forget.
  • How to present your artwork on social media/do’s and do not’s.
  • Portfolio review. 

Dobromila Blaszczyk 

Founder and director of Contemporary Lynx, an Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Lynx Magazine and a President of the Contemporary Lynx Foundation. Holds a Master of Arts degree in History of Art from Jagiellonian University in Cracow (2010). Curator and author of texts about art. Worked at Starmach Gallery (2009-2016), where she organised and coordinated exhibitions, art fairs and projects working closely with art institutions and collectors. Previously she worked with, among others, Galerie Parrotta Contemporary Art in Stuttgart, lokal_30 in Warsaw, The Opole Contemporary Art Gallery, Krakow Photomonth Festival, Art Agenda NOVA and the East of Art Foundation (2007–2008). Involved in organising the 7th Edition of Biennale Jeunne Création Européenne in Montrouge (France). Curator of the 1st Edition of Art Boom Festival in Cracow. Guest lecturer at The Institute of Art History at Jagiellonian University, The Art and Antiques Market at The Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University, Lazarski University in Warsaw (How to Build a Brand, Innovation Architect. More than a Brand); Calvert 22 Gallery in London, “Bunkier Sztuki” Gallery of Contemporary Art in Kraków, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. She is a regular contributor to several solo catalogues of contemporary and modern artists.
