June 14, 2021 @ 8:00 am June 20, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

13th Short Waves Festival – one of the biggest short film festivals in Poland, will take place between 14-20 of June, 2021 in Poznań!

7 festival days of June means more than 70 cinematic events spread within our host city of Poznań’s urban space, over 250 films with 88 in competitions alone (5 competitions: International Competition, Polish Competition, Dances with Camera, Urban View and Polish Experimental Film Competition), international and Polish guests and last but not least, a specially curated ONLINE program. The festivalgoers will also enjoy unconventional screening selections such as Comedy, Horror and Kinky Shorts, focus program (including geographic focus – we will be presenting the cinematography of Austria during the 2021 edition), industry segment, audiovisual events, music events. It also reaches beyond the screening room: open airs, clubs, art galleries, theatres and Poznanians’ private gardens known as Random Garden Cinema series and so much more!

The festival in Poznań is going to be opened with an audiovisual event Kino Forma: Empty Cloud, featuring electronic music extraordinaire – Frank Bretschneider (live act).

For the second time in its history, Short Waves Festival will be organised in a hybrid form, taking place both in Poznań and ONLINEon the festival’s platform with specially curated selection of short films available worldwide. The hybrid format of Short Waves, second in the festival history: offline in Poznań and online, presents two ways of experiencing Cinema, as well as this year’s festival theme: Mirror Mirror. The mirror not only reflects reality, but creates it as well – just like films that present the complexity of being here and now. The motif of a mirrored reflection inside a pendant that is a core of a poster illustrating the 13. edition of Short Waves Festival and Mirror Mirror motto, takes a closer look at contemporary humans – layered and extreme: bored and intrigued, narcissistic and uncertain, lonely and surrounded by people, introverted and extroverted. In reference to the program itself, the focus theme is going to be explored in three film programs, presenting post-pandemic cinema, the search for new spirituality, attempt at rationalizing the reality, and the recurring theme of film as a production tool of the seemingly invisible.
