November 20 – November 24
16th Edition of the Abu Dhabi art fair will take place between 20th – 24th November 2024 at Manarat Al Saadiyat and will feature 102 local, regional and international galleries in biggest edition to date.
The 16th edition brings together a group of galleries presenting modern and contemporary art, alongside 3 new Focus sectors at the Fair; Something Bold, Something New, a spotlight on modern artists from the region; The Collectors Salon bringing together galleries presenting artefacts, historical objects, manuscripts and artworks for the first time at Abu Dhabi Art, and Silk Road: Drifting Identities bringing together galleries and artists from Central Asia & the Caucasus.
The gallery sector, Emerge, has also expanded to include 9 galleries, all selling works priced under USD3,000 and the long-standing sector Bidaya will introduce two gallery newcomers to the regional art scene.
This year’s Gateway exhibition curated by Odessa Warren and Carine Harmand will explore connections between the Arab world and Latin America. The show brings together contemporary artists who open windows into the flows and exchanges between these two regions. Titled Otra Orilla (English: Another Shore), the exhibition will feature works by Emilia Estrada, Alia Farid, Francisca Khamis Giacoman, and Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez, as well as a new commission by Mandy El-Sayegh. Often reflecting on diasporic experiences, the artists map landscapes and historical narratives, weaving personal and collective memory. Through moving image, textile and installations, they explore how shared political and poetic imaginaries underpin the parallels and intersections between Latin American and Arab contexts.
Beyond: Emerging Artists 2024 will be curated by Lorenzo Fiaschi, Co-Founder of GALLERIA CONTINUA, who has selected the artists Fatma Al Ali, Dina Nazmi Khorchid and Simrin Mehra Agarwal to produce commissioned works to be exhibited at Abu Dhabi Art this year. The works will be on exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 20 – 24 November 2024, after which the exhibition will travel internationally to a new location.
