The different celestial signs relating to the sky have always captured human imagination. The meteorological and astronomical phenomena – or simply just the clouds embodies anthropomorphic shapes – excited people’s fantasy, inspired plenty of myths and influenced the birth of new religions. The eternity of the sky and the events that can be observed in it – associated with the intervention in human nature – still strike fear into our hearts and draw a lot of interest.
The Signs in the Sky project represents the latest artworks by Łukasz Patelczyk. The artist offers a summary of all the issues he has been most interested in, over the last few years. The compositions of the pictures are built up by the combination of two styles: he connects the elements of the romantic landscape with the elements of abstract art. The sky, which often captures most of the canvas, depicted realistically and becomes a background where these two structures can be connected. The dynamically painted clouds and pillars of clouds, the disappearing or sharply highlighted horizon, the moon and the lightning strikes present a distinctive atmosphere and emphasize the wildness of nature to which geometric shapes and signs create a counterpoint.
