Budapest: Marianna Serocka

Versailles is over exhibition

At Négyszoba Gallery’s exhibition we are taking a look into the newest works of the Polish painter Marianna Serocka.

Serocka has prepared works especially for the project at the Négyszoba Gallery. The artist lives and works in Krakow, where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2014 at the Faculty of Painting. To date she has had several individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

The name of the VERSAILLES IS OVER its time for a new order. The days of prosperity have past and the time of equality and solidarity has come.

Versailles is associated with splendour, vanity and wealth detached from reality; arrogance, ignorance of the effects of one’s actions, disdain for the people, living beyond means without regard for the cost to others.

The exhibition is a cry of rebellion from the depths of the feudal world, which has passed, changed its face, but it is not over. Opposition to the master caste and slave society.

In Marianna Serocka’s work we can see strong inspiration from folk art. The whole project is kept in gloomy, sinister colors.

Most of the works are Lowian cutouts or drawings made with ink or charcoal on paper.
The severity of the work refers to the brutal treatment of the peasants and their eternal oppression.
