Layered Realities exhibition

Artists: Tomasz Piars, Bea Kusovszky

Szenecsár Gallery’s Layered Realities exhibition is a selection of the latest artworks created by Bea Kusovszky and Tomasz Piars. The structures of their paintings are made of several layers, and the two artists’ working methods are fairly close to each other: They build up ideas and visions ‘surface by surface’ on the canvas, creating their own separate universe of pseudo-reality. For them, due to their experimental attitude, a canvas is a space that allows them to create particular visions and mix them together with special elements borrowed from art history.

In Kusovszky’s new series, stereotypical landscape elements appear from the golden age of pop-art. Female figures borrowed from fashion magazines are peering the distance of the painted scenery. Although much of the surface she painted is characterized by abstract design, the raster points, bringing back comic books, create an op-art effect. The models who are staring at the picture broaden the dimensions of the artwork with Photorealism and, in a self-reflective manner, they refer to its own pictorial nature.

Tomasz Piars’ pictures depict geometric forms; they are already painted in abstract style carrying the features and geometrical elements of gesture painting alike. Different polygons, cones, lines and other curved shapes react with each other, like small molecules, they disintegrate and eventually become liquid. Nevertheless, the created structures do not produce any static effect, and Piars’ compositions are either an ever-moving organic material or a colorful, bright animation.
