The Institute of Art and Design and the Institute of Painting and Artistic Education at UKEN (University of the National Education Commission) in Cracow invite you to the 11th edition of the Faculty of Art in the City festival! As part of the festival, this year the spotlight is exclusively on our students, graduates, and doctoral students from the Faculty of Art at UKEN, and we invite you to three unique events:

Diplomas at the Post Office – an exhibition of artistic and design diplomas from the Faculty of Art at UKEN. The exhibition “Diplomas at the Post Office,” realized as part of the 11th edition of the Faculty of Art in the City festival, is a broad presentation of the creative and project activities of students, graduates, and diplomats from the two institutes that make up the Faculty of Art at UKEN.The exhibition, which involves dozens of participants, showcases the scope of creative and didactic activities of individual departments or studios. It is also an opportunity to display diplomas completed in the past year side by side so that students and the audience can see them together. This provides an opportunity to inquire about synergy, the interplay of art and design, and to present convergent as well as divergent artistic and project strategies of young creators and designers.

Date: December 7th – December 14th / Exhibition opening: 6:00 PMVenue: Main Post Office, Wielopole Street 2, CracowThe Main Post Office building is made available for the event by ZEITGEIST Asset Management. The revitalization project for the facility is managed by the BE Kraków Architekci studio.

DS010803N, 803, 8.3. – an artistic-research intervention by doctoral students from the Faculty of Art at UKEN and the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Rzeszów (Artistic Research Circle).

DS010803N, 803, 8.3. – discipline codes for “fine arts and conservation of works of art” assigned by various systems. Each discipline in the doctoral school operates on similar principles, so artistic disciplines are subject to the same formal and evaluative requirements as exact or social sciences. The creative process is inscribed in research procedures, a measurable, systematic scientific scheme, accompanied by formal requirements. Fine arts are last on the list. If we subtract six hundred from the code 10803, we get automation, electronics, and electrical engineering. On the other hand, DS010603N refers to biological sciences. The exhibition is our personal reflection on functioning within this system and the position of the artist-researcher. The starting point is the intersection of our discipline with other disciplines with which it coexists. Associated with this issue are the relationships between art and science in artistic-research projects, raising questions about how much an artist is allowed, what they can draw on, and whether there are any boundaries defining the scope of their competencies. We consider whether it is possible to be accountable for the realization of the creative process and whether it can be planned. We examine how, as artists, we deal with procedures. We try to answer the question of what the university means to us – whether we see it as a structure providing social and economic security, an opportunity to go beyond the previously accepted boundaries of creativity, or an institutionalization of creative freedom. Does the interdisciplinary nature that accompanies us daily support us, or does it hinder our actions? Date: December 11th – December 19th (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM) // Exhibition opening: December 11th 2:30 PM Venue: Main Building of UKEN, ul.
