She is interested in themateriality of the image, a simple form arising from complex problems, where the essence lies in the relations between painting as an image andpainting as an object. In her work, Kina often refers to the elements and theoretical concepts of traditional painting.
Her artistic process recalls manipulated canvas of the Italian neo-avantgarde masters, whose surfaces were invigorated by disturbing elements.Emilia Kina, however, carves and constructs her relief compositions asthey emerge from a molded and wavy loom. Through creation of a spatialexpansion towards the outside of the canvas, the artist pays attention tothe internal function of the painting, its pure plasticity, and materialbeauty. At the same time, a kinetic illusion of subtle colors andgradients makes the surface unconstrained by two dimensions andcontributes to the painting’s temporal and narrative properties, makingit strongly representational.
Emilia Kina has recently exhibited at the Gray House Gallery in Cracow,Raster Gallery in Warsaw, Stefan Gierowski Foundation in Warsaw, KristinHjellegjerde Gallery in London, as well as during international art fairsuch as Artissima in Turin 2021 and NADA Miami 2021
