Artists: Agata Madejska, Pio Rahner, Marita Bullmann
Impuls Bauhaus Festival is organised by Folkwang University of Arts Essen.
Agata Madejska connects photography, objects and sculpture in order to create a complex and precisely balanced installation. The distinct visual use of forms grants a strong presence to objects and images. Her work addresses political symbolism and rhetoric, both concealed within objects and social structures. By artistic means, her critical and abstracting examination of history and representation undermines the existing and dominating structures of interpretation as well as their cultural, social and political functions.
“Mistakes Were Made” (2018) examines human coexistence, connecting bodily and auditory perception to create an experiential space. The images from her “Rise” series (2018) depict harmful smog resulting from the concentration of ozone and photochemical oxidants in reaction to the sun‘s UV radiation. “Host and Guest” (2019) features masks which can be worn by visitors at the opening night. All three of her works are dealing with the ambiguous interpretability of images, objects and languages.
Agata Madejska (*1979 Warsaw) studied at Folkwang University of the Arts and graduated from the Royal College of Art in London. Her work earned her numerous prizes and awards, among them the 2011 Sponsorship Award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for Young Artists.
