"Female artistic practices: research, awareness and networks"

October 28,2021 - October 28,2021

October 28, 2021 All day

Gallery Podbrzezie – newly established creative playground and university art space wants to encourage artists, curators, researchers interested in issues of local, regional and gender identity and experience to cooperate. The Gallery is situated in the former Jewish school of crafts, this unique legacy defines its mission and vision. We wish to make an inclusive and diverse place especially for artists, designers and curators, researchers from our region, who explore issues of identity, history, memory and daily life.

As part of the new academic year and new season at the gallery we want to invite you together with the Foundation of the Faculty of Art of Pedagogical University in Krakow, the Spacer Foundation and Contemporary Lynx to an international and digital seminar. Its topic is “Female artistic practices: research, awareness and networks”.For a while we have observed a shift towards online publishing and promotion of art and art history research. Pandemia only strengthened this trend. We see its advantages, like the explosion of creativity in the way art is researched, analyzed, presented, sold, and so one.  Also we perceive that this digitalization generates the democratization of access to the resources and cuts entry budgets for art and research projects in comparison to live conferences, expositions, fairs. In addition we perceive some disadvantages, in particular multitude of outlets and channels create chaos and derivative invisibility of some messages. However, still digital platforms present us with a great opportunity to further equality, inclusion, diversity in the art world and academics.

At the seminar we are going to meet with activists, artists, researchers, curators from Europe and Latin America who developed comprehensive and state of the art platforms focused on propagation of research and awareness of women artists. Their work is impressive. As we are moved and inspired by their achievement, we wish to promote these tremendous resources and discuss what these huge efforts of making space for women artists offline and online mean for them and for contemporary art history, as well as for women who create nowadays. The invited experts are dr Marika Kuźmicz (http://www.fundacjaarton.pl/https://forgottenheritage.eu/), Agata Cieślak (https://www.agata-cieslak.com/https://secondaryarchive.org/), Róna Kopeczky (https://www.easttopics.com/https://creativedisturbance.org/voice/rona-kopeczky/), Matylda Taszycka (https://awarewomenartists.com/), Carla Rippey (https://hammer.ucla.edu/radical-women/artists/carla-rippeyhttps://mujeresartistasenred.blogspot.com/).

The seminar takes place on 28th of October, at the fanepage of Podbrzezie Gallery. Presentations and discussions will be in English. Detailed agenda can be found below.

The seminar is accompanied by workshop: “Stories in forging relations”, prepared for creatives, artists, curators, students and professionals.

About the workshop:

Stories are ancient. Stories are what moves us forward. Through stories, we get to know the world, and the world gets to know us. Stories wield power to bond people, and this workshop is designed to let you use this power.

We’ll show you how to use the power of storytelling to build relations between people from various cultures, social backgrounds, and career experiences. We’ll also share how you can use online collaboration and communication tools to enhance your storytelling skills.

The workshop will be conducted by Joanna Nowarska, a co-founder of the Spacer Foundation, brand strategist, researcher, and a decent human being.

The Spacer Foundation is an experimental project. It has been established to enable the exchange of experiences between creators and the Krakow audience. Through the Foundation’s activities, we want to open the door to the world of creativity. We imagine that such openness can help creators and audiences learn more about each other and engage in dialogue.

The workshop is to be delivered on zoom, for those who sign up. In order to take part in the workshop please email [email protected]. It is an activity designed for smaller groups up to 12 persons.
