Crossing Spaces, is an ongoing project in which Anna Witkowska reflects on our relation towards time and space around us. The series of photographs and compilation of short films show her journey through different landscapes, to which she pays brief visits and captures slow impressions of her temporary existence. The balanced performance of appearance and disappearance in the staged landscapes, shows her interpretation of what she encounters on her way and how she relates to those places. She literally goes into landscape and merge within it until she becomes one with the scene. The motion in her work makes the experience of time and space more tangible. The world gets then into a slow momentum of barely visible but constant change. This project became a diary of her wanderings through different spaces, creating her ‘inward’ and ‘outward’ landscape.
Besides the personal experience of the surroundings, the project also reinforces the universal, always present in her work, existential question about human presence and our experience of the world around us.
