Burning House. Selection from the Antoine de Galbert’s collection

On October 2nd, the exhibition Burning House will open at ms headquarters at 43 Gdańska Street. It portrays an array of contemporary world’s conflicts, as well as the tragedies and history of the twentieth century.

The selected artworks record the paroxysms of the global politics of hostility, recalling the images of carnage – for example, following the explosion of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki or the German night raids during World War II. This presentation of a fragment of the French collection of Antoine de Galbert is a record of the amplitude of history that sometimes manifest as a transpersonal monstrosity of history, and at other times as portra its of aged faces displaying the life experiences of individuals.

Between 2004-18 in Paris, Antoine de Galbert created a unique space, La Maison Rouge, which hosted both historical and contemporary art exhibitions, giving visitors the opportunity to encounter a variety of art – from European to South African. Antoine de Galbert is also a well-known collector. The exhibition at Muzeum Sztuki is based on his collection.

In Łódź, we will see 75 works by artists such as David Goldblatt, Yan Morva, Pavel Wolberg, Guillame Bijl, Boltanski, Kader Attia, Roman Cieślewicz, and Mieczysław Berman.

The exhibition is organized jointly by Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and Fotofestiwal. It will be accompanied by a publication featuring a text by Katarzyna Bojarska.

Muzeum Sztuki curator: Maria Morzuch
