Great films and music from all over the world. Legendary masters and young artists, representatives of cinema and music, hundreds of film showings, and many musical events. Transatlantyk Festival in Łódź is an artistic platform which, through music and film, creates stronger relationships between people, art, and environment and inspires discussions on current social issues. It is a recognised international festival of a new generation, which creates its identity by combining a sophisticated offer addressed at the film industry with a widely-accessible programme of social education and activation.
Transatlantyk Festival in Łódź is based on three pillars:
Film – presentation of the latest and the most important productions, awarded at prestigious film festivals (in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, or at Sundance Film Festival), retrospectives, documentaries, short films, and animated films, as well as visits of eminent and awarded film artists and guests from all over the world. Each edition of the Festival means over 100 films viewed during several hundred showings!
Music – the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, unique world-class compositors’ competitions addressed at young artists, concerts, and events at the Festival Club.
Education and other film and music events – a series of workshops, Master Classes, and discussion panels with great specialists, an extensive educational programme concerning film art, music, social issues, production, and distribution, with world-class professionals participating. The programme is addressed at people at all ages. It is supplemented with all-year events which activate residents of Łódź and the region, i.e. Program Współtworzenia Wydarzeń Transatlantyk Festival MikroGranty [Transatlantyk Festival MikroGranty Programme of Co-Creating Events], Śniadania z Transatlantykiem [Breakfasts with Transatlantyk], and events co-financed from the Festival Fund.
The Transatlantyk is Open and Glocal, i.e. local in its actions and identity and, at the same time, global in understanding the consequences and context of its own actions.
The Founder and the Director of the Festival is Oscar-winning composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek.
