It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the launch of our ‘Testimony in practice’ exhibition at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
The exhibition, curated by Centrala and hosted by Romanian Cultural Institute results from a partnership with the University of Birmingham. The project promotes greater exchange and collaboration between researchers and artists in different fields around the ethics and methods of using testimony. At the same time it aims to increase public understanding of the life experiences of Central and Eastern Europeans living in the UK. In this way, we hope to foster greater community cohesion and a sense of social recognition.
For this exhibition, two artists from different backgrounds, Emma Lockey —a set designer based in Birmingham and Maciej Bączyk —a multimedia artist, co-founder of kinoManual duo, working and living in Wroclaw, Poland are telling an engaging story created from multiple perspectives, memories of life under a totalitarian regime and the system change that followed. They were inspired by family anecdotes, recollections and flashbacks that point out the importance of the year 1989 and the revolutions leading to the fall of the Iron Curtain.
