Margate: Sława Harasymowicz

February 2, 2018 - May 7, 2018

Słąwa Harasymowicz exhibition

SŁAWA HARASYMOWICZ

Sława Harasymowicz’s mixed-media artwork from her residency at Margate Museum explores the materiality of language in T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land in a site-responsive intervention. Juxtaposing the biographical, the fictive and the Museum itself – once a town hall, a police station, and magistrate’s court – the work is a form of scenario which re-considers tensions between memory and absence. Alongside presenting her own work, Harasymowicz has invited further contributions by artists including Cecilia Bonilla, Joanna Rajkowska, Alicja Rogalska, Justyna Scheuring and Eva Stenram.

Sława Harasymowicz studied at The Royal College of Art and is currently PhD candidate at the University of the Arts, London. Harasymowicz works across a diverse range of media and is interested in the possibilities of narrative. Her solo shows included, among others, The Freud Museum, London (2012) and The Poetry Library, Southbank Centre, London (2016). She is the author of a graphic novel The Wolf Man (Self Made Hero, 2012).

This is an independent event organised by members of the public in response to Turner Contemporary’s invitation to create an event or activity inspired by The Waste Land, T.S. Eliot’s legacy, and Turner Contemporary’s exhibition Journeys with ‘The Waste Land’.
