SCATTERED RHYMES

The name of the exhibition refers to Petrarch and his first Sonnet “The Scattered Rhymes”. The exhibition presents 14 painters who have been long known in the Polish and international art scene and their work has won many awards at prestigious art exhibitions. They exhibit their work regularly and their work can be seen in galleries or personal collections.

Although all artists studied painting, they very often reach beyond this medium and incline towards spatial art, site-specific realizations, conceptual tendencies or architecture interventions. His students praise Prof. Andrzej Bednarczyk’s atelier as an open, free space where they can create without fear of breaking traditional boundaries of the painting medium and find the best means to express topics important to them. The choice of artists was done by Prof. Andrzej Bendarczyk, the head of the Painting Department and Michał Zawada, the vice-dean of the faculty. We decided to bring these foremost representatives of the Krakow art scene to the Olomouc Galerie XY and present current trends of young Polish artists to the Olomouc public and thus strengthen the partnership of both cities.

About the Painting Atelier:

The atelier is a space for meetings, discussions and sharing art and art history knowledge and experience between students and lecturers. There, painting is placed in the transdisciplinary sphere, which emphasizes its role as a medium, searches for its boundaries and helps to establish its active relationship with other forms of artistic expression. Students work independently on their own projects which help to determine the area where they can freely continue their search for true expression, as well as point to the potential of transcending their limitations. The studio has no tradition of painting one model together – the cooperation has a form of individual consultations and group meetings which constitute a space for discussions of the whole group as a community. The atelier focuses on individual artistic development of students as well as group work on joint exhibition projects both at the university and beyond. It is also opened for cooperation with representatives of the world of art and is a meeting place for students and curators, art theoreticians or gallery owners.
