Borys Makary solo exhibition in Paris.
The exhibition will be shown in the gallery Claude Samuel, where you can see the artist’s works from 19 May to 19 June 2016. At the exhibition they will be presented three projects: “They were”, “Connection” and “Polish misia”. The common denominator for these three projects is a woman. The author in the specific way tries to explore the nature of women, and also refer to the role and perception of the modern world.
The “They were” project boils down to the “Man Rey-esque” form of negatives, on which signs and digits, symbolising the personality of the character in the picture, were painted by hand. The starting point was numerology, certain symbols which were to say something about the given person. Each photograph tells the story of a different woman. The project was shown at FOTOFEVER exhibition in the Louvre and at the Nue 1 exhibition at Paris NUE Gallery.
The “Connection” project. These are the central photographs of a woman, in the background of the landscape. The romantic aesthetic is kept, we can see some reference to romanticism, for example to the Caspar David Friedrich painting, with its negation at the same time. The woman is a bit anti-romantic.
Polish misia (Lick your teddy) is about depicting and presenting a psychological and sociological phenomenon, which seems to have been present “since forever”, but has never been talked about in this context. In this project women show their deep bond, relations with “a teddy bear”, emphasising their amorous approach towards these toys. The photo story is completed with the memories connected with this “fluffy friend”.
