Opening on 19 July, Kronos e Kairos, the exhibition that renews the appointment with contemporary art in the monumental spaces of the Palatine, will run until 3 November.
If Kronos is time passing, Kairos is the right moment, the one when something specific happens. This double definition creates a bond, but also a contrast, between time as quantity, Kronos, and time as quality, Kairos, along the course of a historical dimension, narrated on the Palatine Hill, through the 15 works by as many Italian and international artists invited to take part.
The exhibition suggests a vision of the contemporary that dialogues with the historical heritage, revealing the continuity and stratification that characterise the richness and uniqueness of the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo.
The works selected, including audiovisuals and installations, combine with the scenarios of the imperial palaces: from the monumental Severian Arches to the quiet of the Palatine Stadium, from the aesthetic pleasure of the lower peristyle of the Domus Augustana to the spatial evidences of the Sala dei Capitelli. The ancient and the contemporary support and welcome each other, opening the door to a continuous relationship between the world of yesterday and that of today.
Balance, relationship between history and nature, memory and sedimentation, as well as aging and conservation are the themes that bind the 15 artists in the exhibition: Nina Beier – Catherine Biocca – Fabrizio Cotognini – Dario D’Aronco – Rä di Martino – Jimmie Durham – Kasia Fudakowski – Giuseppe Gabellone – Hans Josephsohn – Oliver Laric – Cristina Lucas – Matt Mullican – Hans Op De Beeck – Giovanni Ozzola – Fernando Sánchez Castillo.
