“Sensoria. The Art and Science of Our Senses” is an interdisciplinary project dedicated to the ways in which the senses are perceived in art and science. It explores the world of the senses through scientific, social and cultural interpretations. The exhibition is the result of an inter-institutional and intercultural collaboration between the ŁAŹNIA Center for Contemporary Art and Sensorium: Centre for Digital Art and Technology at York University in Toronto.

The main goal of the creation of the exhibition is to present a variety of art projects dedicated to sensory perception. The “Sensoria” project allowed artists from different corners of the world to communicate with each other, creating a network between continents and ideas and bringing together different perspectives to explore how our globalized world has brought us together and how it has pulled us apart. The “Sensory” artists were invited to present their work in new site-specific situations. The project also aimed to revive sensory connections to the immediate environment, through technological tools and the web (and at the same time – in spite of them); and to experience and discuss them together.

At the exhibition, you will be able to see, hear, touch and smell many art forms and techniques: Karolina Halatek’s immersive large-scale installation using light and fog, Csenge Kolozsvari’s body-related video project, Agnes Meyer Brandis’ organic, woody scents and teleconferencing with trees, Artur Zmijewski’s recording of a painting experiment with visually impaired volunteers, Hilda Kozari’s workshop on scent and its relationship to memory, Gayil Nalls’ recollection of Gayil Nalls’ monumental 2000 New York realization “World Sensorium.” Raewyn Turner and Brian Harris will reflect on the development of a ubiquitous data collection system, and Guy Van Belle, in collaboration with Krzysztof Topolski and the Academic Choir of the University of Gdansk and with the participation of the audience, will present the performance “Fanfare” in public space.

The exhibition was co-financed by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for Promotion of Culture – a state purpose fund.
