SHORT WAVES FESTIVAL 2017
the most concise short film festival.
Short, concise, diverse. 9th Short Waves Festival is an international film festival taking place on March 21-26 2017 in Poznań.
The main theme of this year’s festival is „beyond borders”, related to both the process of blurring of the boundaries dividing various artistic fields and recipients along with active culture users, and conventionality of geographical borders as well as occurrences such as the migrant crisis, globalization of the world economy and new social phenomena present solely in virtual reality.
Short Waves Festival is a network of film events scattered around the urban space of Poznań. Its core consists of competition screenings – a carefully put together selection of outstanding short films divided into four categories: International Competition, Polish Competition, Dances With Camera and experimental unxpctd.mov. An important element of projects beyond the competitions during this year’s edition will be the focus on German cinema, which will include Zebra Poetry Film Festival, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Christoph Girardet retrospective, and Matthias Wermke and Mischa Leinkauf exhibition. The program also includes short animations, last year’s Oscar nominations and European Film Awards, selection of films focusing on diversity in sexuality entitled Queer Shorts and a unique set of videos entitled Saving Pop Culture from International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The festival will also be filled with special events such as Fusion Cinema and special Random Home Cinema – film screenings in Poznanian’s private apartments. There will be many meetings and discussion panels associated with European Short Pitch and Poznań Industry Days, as well as project and screenwriting workshops. The program will be complemented with discussions with artists and an afterparty at LAS club on Małe Garbary. The events will be taking place in various locations across Poznań: studio cinemas, clubs and cultural centers.
