The Polish artistic market is constantly rearranging itself, and it is a dynamic and open meeting platform for many participants. Using this as its starting point, the 17th Hestia Artistic Journey Competition has been launched inviting 4th and 5th year students of all Polish art universities and departments to step into the art scene.
Starting from 8th January 2018, students from all art universities in Poland are welcome to send their entries to the Hestia Artistic Journey Competition, which has become an integral part of the Polish art market by giving young artists a real opportunity to go mainstream. Participants may submit their work in one of the following areas: painting, graphic art, sculpture and installation art, photography, and digital and performance arts through a dedicated panel on the competition website.
What sets the Hestia Artistic Journey Competition apart from other art competitions is the true focus and interest in the work of young artists who have not completed their art education yet. Another significant advantage for the participants is the opportunity to have their work evaluated by people who are not members of the academic community. Instead, the finalists and winners of the Hestia Artistic Journey Competition are selected by a jury composed of acclaimed experts and influencers from Poland’s contemporary art scene in a multi-stage voting process. By supporting students in their independent creative pursuit, the contest organizer, the Hestia Artistic Journey Foundation, encourages them to take their own artistic path.
“We are launching the 17th edition of the Hestia Artistic Journey Competition as an encouragement for new artists to enter into the art field which is open to the voice of the young generation, and more importantly, it constantly needs fresh artistic expression. This way, we want to show that it’s a friendly and engaging space not only for artists but the audience as well. The art scene which many of our partners contribute to is also a platform for a direct dialogue, which is something the world desperately needs today,” says Magdalena Kąkolewska, President of the Hestia Artistic Journey Foundation.
Those who enter the 17th edition of the Hestia Artistic Journey Competition will be in for a chance of winning a monthly trip to and artist residency in two of the world’s centres of modern art: New York City and Valencia. Additionally, one of the finalists may be commissioned to develop the artistic concept for the ERGO Hestia Group’s annual report. This year, the competition organizer will also award a special distinction, the Hestia Artistic Journey Foundation Award, which is a 6-month-long scholarship of PLN 12,000 gross for an art project with a theme linked to traveling.
With patronage from ERGO Hestia, this initiative owes its well-established position to the Foundation’s long-term institutional partners. These include art universities from across the country, as well as the Technical University of Valencia, Residency Unlimited of New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, where the finalists’ exhibitions are held. As a result, throughout more than a decade of the competition’s history, a collection of more than 40 works has been created, 27 artist residencies in New York City and Valencia have been hosted, and 42 individual and collective exhibitions have been held across the country.
