VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
among the designers: Agnieszka Bar,
VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is Austria´s largest design festival, with a variety of locations and events in Vienna. Last year it delighted over 38.000 visitors. The festival, curated by Lilli Hollein, will enter its 10th round this year. Opening up creative processes and giving scope for experimentation on site are core elements of the festival concept.
During VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, the city becomes a platform and showcase of design. Design is more than just a designed object. VIENNA DESIGN WEEK defines design as an essential part of the cultural production. The festival shows that design shapes our material culture, our every-day life and our world as consumers. Simultaneously, it influences our lifestyles and most fundamentally our aesthetic senses and judgements.
Agnieszka Bar – CELEBRATING GLASS
Cocktail 07.10.2016 18pm
Subtle visuals and representative audios track the emotions that grip craftspeople during glass production. Steam, moisture, gradation, graininess and plasticity tell of a multifaceted production process, the charm of the material and personal experiences of Agnieszka Bar as designer and craftswoman. Glass objects are the result of repeated task performances, which with perpetual routine may easily lead to an army of objects that are always the same. In her exhibition, Bar thus emphasizes the aspect of usable objects – as containers or holders – and the simultaneous uniqueness of the hand-made object.
Agnieszka Bar concentrates with her label on the material of glass. She designs tableware, functional objects, and one-offs for private and public spaces. Working together with craftspeople and international glass firms, she implements experimental projects of great diversity. Agnieszka Bar studied applied arts in Bratislava and Liberec and completed her studies in 2007 in the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw. Since 2011, she has directed research projects and educational programs in the latter city.
