Warszawa: Wasilewski plays Wajda in Och-Teatr

January 25, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Wasilewski plays Wajda in Och-Teatr

In a world dominated by images, a simple gesture of closing the eyes and listening to the melody stimulates the imagination. It awakens memories. It fills the listeners with musical afterimages. The Andrzej Wajda Film Culture Centre invites the audience to an unusual experiment – a series of jazz concerts inspired by Andrzej Wajda’s movies. The one with Marcin Wasilewski Trio on stage will take place on the 25th of January in Och-Teatr.

The concert Wasilewski plays Wajda in Och-Teatr connects worlds that have never been so close. Andrzej Wajda’s film reality, which puts the magic of an image in the foreground. The reality of Marcin Wasilewski Trio music, a unique jazz band that creates own language of musical expression. And also theatrical reality, so important for Andrzej Wajda, who was an outstanding theatre director and a stage designer.

The idea of the concert is a spectacular combination of film art with excellent jazz. Piano, double bass and percussion – these three instruments will create music known to the audience from Wajda’s cinema – says Joanna Rożen-Wojciechowska, director of the Andrzej Wajda Film Culture Centre.

Marcin Wasilewski Trio, pianist Marcin Wasilewski, double bass player Sławomir Kurkiewicz and drummer Michał Miśkiewicz, will offer a musical interpretation of Andrzej Wajda’s films. Cinema lovers will find traces of the master in their music, jazz lovers will immerse themselves in the worlds of the film scene, and all those gathered in Och-Teatr will feel the charm of the theatre scene.
