Among the artist: Maria Loboda, Mateusz Sadowski
GRANPALAZZO is a two-days exhibition-event that will take place in the splendid setting of Palazzo Rospigliosi in Zagarolo, a small town just outside Rome, planned for the last weekend of May (30-31).
GRANPALAZZO aims to bring together art-world professionals in a single cosy venue, in contrast to the much larger, more distracting settings of the usual art fairs and large scale exhibitions, where it seems to be difficult to find a real space for people to come together properly and get the most out of their encounters.
GRANPALAZZO involves a small group of artists supported by active and research based galleries from the International art scene, whose practices stand out in terms of high-level curatorship, effective scouting, and the creation of a market of their own in spite of the trends of the moment.
The exceptional venue of Palazzo Rospigliosi, the sixteenth-century Palazzo built by the Colonnas – one of the great noble families of Renaissance and Baroque Rome – and afterwards bought by the Rospigliosi family, contains a high number of unique works of art, including frescoes and grotesques, and is in an excellent state of preservation.
These magnificent and challenging spaces will host the exhibition, and each room will bring in relation the works of two artists in a carefully well-defined setting.
GRANPALAZZO will also include a programme of performances, curated by Ilaria Gianni, involving artists working with the participating galleries, and a series of special projects curated by Nero Magazine (Rome), LULU (Mexico City) and Cura Magazine (Rome) which will take place inside the Palazzo and in the streets of Zagarolo.
By leaving the big city and entering a new and very different dimension, GRANPALAZZO will be a small, exclusive event that brings out the very best of the region from a cultural, scenic and gastronomic point of view. In an enchanting atmosphere where time goes by at a different pace from the usual art events, and where the emphasis is on the quality of what is offered, the aim is to create a unique opportunity to bring about an authentic and lasting dialogue between professionals in the sector.
Throughout their stay, visitors will be accompanied around the works of art and will be invited to discover local traditions, making it a weekend to remember and to recount.
GRANPALAZZO 2015 is in collaboration with Istituzione Palazzo Rospigliosi.
