The exhibition starts from the concept of home or what it means to be at home. Home – a space in a physical or emotional perception – is a place where you feel safe. How “safe” can you feel at home? Is the perception of the house instinctive? The fragility of what “home” means has become a stark reality for Ukrainians since February 24, 2022, with the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Many people no longer felt safe at home, many lost their homes, others had to emigrate in search of a new home, some found a new home, a temporary one.
The concept was derived from the stories of the children who participated in the Arta Casa Mea Ukraina workshop in the placement centers for refugees in the Republic of Moldova, from March 2022 until now. The parental house or an imaginary one, the house that is no longer called a house, but a shelter and a bunker. The idealistic construct of the “home” concept, related to immutability, extends its meanings of habitat, towards the public arena, but also towards a state of being, as part of the understanding of belonging and self-definition. After the pandemic period, when people were forced to stay at home/home because they would be exposed to danger outside, now people are forced to leave their home/home because they are in danger inside.
The exhibition presents several dimensions of reflection: 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂̆, 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏, 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒕̦𝒊𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕̦𝒊𝒆, 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒕̦𝒊𝒆, 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒇𝒐𝒕𝒐, 𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒆 𝒅𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 made after February 24, 2022, after the war in Ukraine, but also previously done, from 2014. A focus of the exhibition presents the artistic expression of immigrants, but also the expression of women artists in protest/performance actions.
Exhibitors are renowned artists, with works in collections and participation in the Venice Biennale, Documenta, MoMa, MoCa, etc. from Ukraine, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Poland. The artistic discourse elaborated by artists from 4 countries intr.
