The FOTO-GEN Gallery presents a captivating new exhibition “Let’s Accept What We Don’t Like” by artist Ros Khavro, running from April 19 to June 9, 2024. Khavro, born in 1988 in Lviv, is a master of traditional photographic techniques like ambrotype and analogue photography, as well as sculpture using wood and metal.
This exhibition stands in stark contrast to the gallery’s previous exhibition “Winter Showroom”. The cosy, vibrant atmosphere has given way to cool hues and a restrained arrangement that directs the viewer’s focus onto Khavro’s powerful photographic and sculptural objects. His works emanate an undeniable authenticity born from the arduous physical processes of chiselling and working with chemical compounds.
Khavro’s message emerges through precise accents and understatements, inviting contemplation. The opening poem by Ilona Witkowska:
the diamond way distributes widely
a domesticated tiger or lion bites off this man’s head and it is a moment of great satisfaction for me
the sun at its zenith is beating down
every penny turns to love
what kind of reward is this that isn’t really a reward after all?
it’s no reward at all
interjects an element of provocation, perversely alluding to meanings beyond the obvious. This exhibition highlights an artist firmly grounded in his media yet able to translate his multiculturally informed vision into evocative forms that speak to the present moment.
Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to experience the paradigm-shifting vision of Ros Khavro.
