This year’s edition of the Maria Dokowicz Competition is organised for the 39th time by the University of Arts in Poznań. Each Department submits the nomination of the graduate who prepared the best diploma project.

The exhibition of graduates is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the University of Arts in Poznań. The organisers of the contest are considering the biggest challenge facing the modern world – climate change – and so the exhibition will be designed entirely of paper without the use of glues and plastics.

Contemporary Lynx is proud to be a media partner of this event. The editors of our magazine selected 5 artists of whom you are bound to hear in the future. The artists who caught our attention focus on the everyday life problems, including the situation of women, aspects of intimacy, creation of cozy living spaces or education  and meaning of artistic action.

FEMALE ANGER

Weronika Perłowska – ‘Anger detracts from her beauty’

The artist is interested in using and transforming existing images – family photos, Internet archives, cultural representations. In her works, Weronika studies how visual content can influence opinions and social attitudes.

She believes in Freedom, Equality, and Sisterhood. She would like to believe in the critical art and visual activism.

The project presented at the exhibition focuses on female anger who is often perceived as irrational, hysterical, or simply ugly. This way of thinking has a long tradition. Although within social context, female anger is becoming a tool for political change, in terms of individuals it remains taboo, something to be ashamed of, something to hide.

MODERN WOMAN

Kamila Rudnicka – ‘Easy Home Insemination’

Kamila Rudnicka designed the object, which can make the process of insemination easier. It seems that her idea meets the expectations of modern women. It can increase the level of intimacy and make the moment of fertilization closer to the natural one. Even artificial insemination can be pleasant. It is simply a nice object.

The project is the response to the needs of couples who may have difficulty conceiving naturally. It is addressed to lesbian couples, couples with infertility problems on the male side, couples with one side  infected with HIV, etc.

THE NEW FACE OF THE PAST

Joanna Wiernicka – ‘Murzynowo’

The artist presents the project of revitalizing the former state-owned farm in Murzynów. Joanna wants to  highlight the problem of the former state farm villages, which is difficult, complex and marginalised. Going back to the time of the farms’ existence, Joanna wants to explore the relationship between the community, its history and culture, the place and its resources. The  project combines elements of spatial planning, which covers the area of the entire village.

SOMETHING USELESS?

Maria Dutkiewicz – ‘The enemies of the imagination’

Maria Dutkiewicz focuses on the diplomas in the art field. Through her project she wants to ask a question about a sense of preparing a diploma. The project consists of –  artistic book, printed on paper recovered from the university, in which you will find analysis of questionnaire answers.

The part of her project was also a performative action, based on planting a tree. It took place in the UAP courtyard: it contests the overproduction of art and tries to ask a question, what is worth to do in times of climate catastrophe.
