October 23 – October 24
NARRACJE is a festival in which artistic interventions become guides to the city. Embedded in the context of public space, the works provoke, intervene and disrupt everyday routines, revealing the hidden layers and meanings of a particular neighbourhood. NARRACJE#17 will take place on 23 and 24 October 2026 in the Żabianka-Wejhera-Jelitkowo-Tysiąclecia district of Gdańsk. This year’s edition features the concept What Happens Between the Blocks of Flats, developed by Sylwia Szymaniak and Sarmen Beglarian.
The starting point for this year’s edition is the remarkable collaboration between artists, architects, urban planners, housing cooperatives and residents that shaped the design of living spaces in the 1970s, including the Żabianka neighbourhood in Gdańsk.
What Happens Between the Blocks of Flats revisits this tradition of good practice to ask: how do we understand the social and aesthetic role of art in shared spaces today?
How can artists help shape places that not only break the monotony and anonymity of large housing estates, but also encourage social interaction, foster relationships and cultivate aesthetic sensibility?
This year’s route will be defined by artworks created specifically for the district by Tomek Bersz, Mikołaj Biberstein-Starowieyski, Mikołaj Chylak, Maya Gordon, Dominik Jałowiński, Pani Jurek (Magda Jurek and Michał Borecki), Magda Komar, Jacek Krenz, Natan Kryszk, Anna Laskowska, Monika Orpik, Ada Adu Rączka, Anastasia Rydlevskaya, Dorota Walentynowicz and Edward Roguszczak, and Swietlana Zerling.
