Immersive Perspectives. Exploring the exhibition 'Adam Marczynski. Lyric and Form'.

Step into the world of Adam Marczyński, a renowned painter and graphic artist, through the lens of the exhibition “Lyricism and Form,” hosted at MNK Czapski, The National Museum of Krakow. On display until December 31, 2023, this exhibition unveils the evolution of Marczyński’s artistic vision, with a focus on the pivotal period spanning the 1940s to the mid-1960s.

The retrospective explores in depth the post-war evolution of Marczyński, a visionary artist who delved into the realm of geometric abstraction in his later years. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to see the fluent interaction of colour and form, the two pillars that define Marczyński’s artistic philosophy. The narrative unfolds through a rich array of paintings, fine drawings and monotypes, offering a diverse perspective of the artist’s multi-faceted oeuvre.

Nature, a recurring motif in Marczyński’s work, takes on unprecedented forms during this period. The artist engages in a constant dialogue with nature, ‘playing’ with its essence, deepening the bond by revisiting motifs, intensifying colours or reducing them to contours. The exhibition becomes a visual exploration of the cosmic-botanical world as seen through the eyes of the master.

Moreover, the retrospective invites viewers to reflect on the golden period of the Polish avant-garde, a time marked by the pursuit of experimentation and aesthetic sophistication. Marczyński’s role in the Krakow Group and his subsequent co-founding of the Krakow Group II in 1957 highlight the artist’s profound influence on the cultural landscape.

Discover Adam Marczyński’s rich creative output – a journey through time, colour and form.
