From Academia to Exhibit: Exploring Emerging Talents in Kraków.

For the 11th instalment of the Art Department in the City (Pol. Wydział Sztuki w Mieście), the Institute of Art and Design and the Institute of Painting and Artistic Education at UKEN present three exhibitions supporting emerging talents. An array of works from students, graduates, and PhD candidates serves as a lens to the collective perspectives and commentary on the current events. Spanning various art media forms, they offer a glimpse into what shapes the design today. In support of amplifying the voices of young artists, admission to the events is free.

In the doctoral school, every discipline adheres to a shared set of principles. The arts, aligning with the rigour expected in exact and social sciences, follow an official, measurable, and systematised scientific framework. Curiously, ‘visual arts and art conservation’ find themselves at the tail end of the list. In a quest for understanding this phenomenon, doctoral students from the Art Faculty of UKEN and the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Rzeszów (Artistic Research Circle) present an exploration that challenges the very essence of academia and reflects the role of the artist-researcher and the nuanced interplay of visual arts within the expansive realm of scientific networks.
