Contemporary Lynx is a proud media partner of the Image Festival. Its first edition will take place from May 8 to 10, 2025.
The Image Festival is an artistic event organized by the Department of Image and Interdisciplinary Practices (WOiDI) of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań. The main highlight of the Image Festival will be the national painting competition „New Image / New Look.” This year marks the fourteenth time the most interesting works from individuals studying or having graduated in painting from state universities across Poland will be presented in Poznań. The works of finalists in the competition will be showcased at the Słodownia +1 Gallery in Stary Browar. The exhibition will open to the public on April 28, and on the final day of the Festival, there will be a closing event for the competition exhibition along with an award ceremony.
The competition will be accompanied by exhibitions, lectures and guided tours, as well as musical events and a discussion panel related to the competition. The initial points of the festival program will be published soon.
The proposed events within the artistic program offer an opportunity for meetings and discussions about art and for active engagement with images. The Festival creates a chance to look into the works of young artists, their interests, fascinations, and concerns, expressed through imagery that often communicates very personal content. The paintings presented at the festival take various forms, from traditional tools such as oil paintings on canvas to the latest technologies and digital images, as well as transmedia forms.
The Image Festival is aimed at everyone interested in art and image in the broadest sense of the word. The event is a grassroots initiative by artistic individuals associated with the Department of Image and Interdisciplinary Practices. The Department was established in 2024, with the overarching idea of interdisciplinary exploration of the concept of image, encompassing both ancient, traditional imaging techniques and new technologies. The Department has been admitting students to the Image and Interdisciplinary Practices program since 2025.
Interest in the „New Image / New Look” competition and its positive reception, as well as the initiative of the Painting Day held during previous editions of the competition, have inspired the expansion of this event to include additional artistic activities that will involve local cultural initiatives, students, and the local community in the annual celebration of the image.
