Yan Tomaszewski is a French/Polish artist who works at the intersection of sculpture, film and installation. Trained at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (FR), at Royal College of Art in London (GB), and at Le Fresnoy Studio national des arts contemporains in Tourcoing (FR), his often narrative projects combine research-based methodologies with visually seductive outcomes.
His work has been exhibited at the Archeological Museum, Krakow (PL); the Air and Space Museum, Paris (FR); CSW Kronika, Bytom (PL); the Middelheim Museum, Antwerp (BE); Asymetria gallery, Warsaw (PL); and Primo Piano, Paris (FR). He has participated in group shows at Filles du Calvaire gallery, Paris (FR); the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles (USA); Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (DE); Le Fresnoy Studio national des arts contemporains, Tourcoing (FR); Daejeon Culture & Arts Foundation, Daejeon (KR); Centre Pompidou, Paris (FR); Fondation Hippocrène, Paris (FR); and Manifesta 9, Genk (BE). His films were screened in festivals such as FID International Film Festival, Marseille (FR); Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (FR/DE) and Doclisboa, Lisbon (PT). He was a resident of Centre National Edition Art Image, Pantin (FR); Daejeon Culture & Arts Foundation (KR), French Institute, Los Angeles (USA); Imago Mundi Foundation, Krakow (PL); Air Antwerpen (BE); Futura Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague (CZ). He was nominated for Sciences Po Prize for Contemporary Art (FR); KNAF, Leszek Knaflewski Award for Young Artists (PL); and Studio Collector Prize (FR). He was laureate of French Institute program Hors les Murs in visual arts and received a grant from the Vysehrad Fund. His work has been featured in numerous international publications including: Le Quotidien de l’art; The LA Times; H Art Magazine; Szum and Artforum. Yan Tomaszewski got the second prize at the Allegro Prize Competition.
