>> DEKOLONIALE BERLIN RESIDENCY 2023 (GERMANY)

Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City is pleased to announce the third open call for the Dekoloniale Berlin Residency 2023. We invite artists, architects, designers, directors, performers, fashion designers, writers or urban practitioners to apply for a residency at Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City of Berlin. Applicants are invited to uncover and transform historical colonial stratifications and dominant narratives in Berlin’s public space. 

The three selected residents are expected to co-create artistic interventions in the public sphere and present them in the framework of the Dekoloniale Festival and the Dekoloniale exhibit in September 2023 and are encouraged to consider hybrid modes of thought, research, and practice.

>> OPEN CALL FOR DIGITAL DIASPORAS (AUSTRALIA, CANADA, USA)

Digital Diasporas was a spacious opportunity for artists to do deep thinking and form cross-border connections without the pressure of producing a final product.

Who can apply:

  • Artists and curators who self-identify and find it useful to gather under a “Sino and/or Chinese diaspora” cohort. They are looking for openness to collective, intercultural and cross-border development and research.
  • They are looking for experimental, digital, and/or research-based practices, and people who feel an alignment with and interest in any or all of the host organizations’ networks and programming. 
  • They are especially interested in ideas that explore diasporic cultures and spaces, flows of people, goods and capital, alternative community and kin-making, digital cultures, media arts, philosophies of technology and place-making—and any intersections of these.

Application deadline: 15 February 2023.

Support:

  • Each resident or collective will primarily work with one host organization in Australia, Canada, or the United States and all residents as a cohort will be in dialogue with one another through convenings. 
  • Each resident or collective will be awarded an unrestricted stipend of AUD $10,000 for their participation (CAD $10,000 for the Gendai Resident).

>> GARAGE GALLERY – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME (THE CZECH REPUBLIC)

Since 2018 Garage Gallery has been hosting an international residency for artists and curators who prepare a final presentation of their work together with the exhibition after the residency. We provide the selected residents with accommodation and partial funding for their work so that they can fully commit to their planned project. By inviting international artists, we aim to create a meaningful exchange of experiences and creative perspectives. 

The residency will run from 1st of July till September 15th 2023. Divided into a two month long residency and two weeks of installation and preparation for the upcoming exhibition which will take place in the gallery starting in mid September 2023.

Who can apply:

  • international artists and art collectives working in any medium

Application deadline: 15 February 2023.

Support: 

  • The selected candidate will get a stipend of 2 000 euros (including travel and living costs) + installation budget (approx. 500 euros)

>> THE SOUND ART RESIDENCY (FRANCE)

The musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac launches the call for applications for the second edition of its new program: the Sound Art Residency.

The Sound Art Residency is open exclusively to artists who come from one of the four continents represented in the collections of the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac: Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. There is no age limit to apply.

The winning project will be chosen in the spring of 2023 by a jury that will bring together various personalities from the world of sound and audiovisual creation. 

Calendar:

  • 13 April 2023: Selection of the laureate after an interview
  • May 2023 – February 2024: Research, creation, production with work session at the museum in Paris and Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing
  • Mid-March 2024: End of the residency and public presentation of the piece

Application deadline: 19 February 2023.

Support:

  • The museum will pay the winning artist an endowment of €8,000 ;
  • Will also finance the production of the sound work, which will be presented to the public and may become part of the museum’s collections.

Running all year round since 2002, the residency programme is at the heart of PACT Zollverein’s day to day work. Open to professional artists from home and abroad who work in the areas of dance, performance, media arts or music

TOPIC & TIMELINE RESIDENCY IN ANTWERP

Residency I: THE SCHELDT ESTUARY IN ANTWERP

in Antwerp from 1/4/2023 until 30/4/2023

After the residency period the selected artists will have time to further develop their work which will be shown in a local exhibition starting September 2023.

The four selected residents will work in the Scheldt Estuary, the ecological zone alongside the Scheldt, a living climate laboratory, and a rare phenomenon worldwide.

Support:

  • For each residency we will select four artists. 
  • Each of them will receive a fee of 2000€, a working budget of 2000€, as well as the coverage of their travels, accommodation and subsistence during the residency period

>> AHC RESEARCH PROJECTS (DENMARK)

You can now apply to have Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) as host institution for PhD projects in practice-based research. The projects will primarily be funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF).

Each year AHC selects a maximum of four applicants for practice-based PhD grants in visual art and two for practice-based PhD grants in curating. All candidates are selected by a jury consisting of two external members who change each year, as well as one member from AHC’s team.

Application deadline: 27 February 2023.

Support/Funding may cover:

  • Salary, according to salary scale at administrating host institution;
  • University tuition fee, max. DKK 80.000 per year;
  • Operating expenses, such as books, computer, database access, museum access etc.;
  • Equipment, such as production materials (only for practice-based scholarships);
  • Publication costs, max. DKK 150.000;
  • Conference participation, max. DKK 75.000 for registration and travel;
  • Relocation expenses for applicants from outside Denmark;
  • Travel costs for research stays abroad; 
  • Collaborative activities, such as workshops, organisation of small scale workshops in

  • For administrative support of the grant, an amount up to 5% of, and included in, the funding applied for from the NNF may be included in the budget. The administrative support:
  • can cover non-scientific, administrative expenses in relation to the project, such as accounting, administration related to payment of salaries and purchasing, hiring, as well as auditing and financial reporting on the project;
  • cannot cover administrative expenses that are not directly related to the project; and is not automatically included in the grant and must be stated/applied for in the application budget but should not be specified in detail

>> ARTIST/DESIGNER IN RESIDENCE (SWITZERLAND)

The goal of the residency is to explore new ways in which to apply our research results for creative expression. Specifically, to collaboratively create an art piece or design prototype that will be exhibited and publicized in appropriate venues. The residency at GCM can last for up to three months starting in March 2023 at the earliest.

Who can apply:

You are an emerging or established artist or designer interested in harnessing science and technological innovations in your creative work. In particular, you should have: 

  • expertise in computational design,
  • familiarity with digital modeling tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper, Blender, etc.,
  • experience in digital fabrication,
  • affinity to scientific research in geometric computing.

  • Access to our latest research technology, in particular computational design tools developed at GCM with hands-on support by the people who create the software and digital fabrication technology.
  • Access to a fully equipped fab lab including machines for laser cutting, CNC milling, and 3D printing, as well as standard hand tools and various custom-build machines.
  • A stipend that covers accommodation and living expenses.
  • A budget of CHF 10k for consumables, machines, presentation materials, travel, etc.
  • A highly interdisciplinary, collaborative environment.

>> RESIDENCY | MANOR AT BIESENTHAL | SUMMER 2023 (GERMANY)

North of Berlin around 60 minutes by train from the central station, the forest property `Biesenthal` is located right next to the lake Wukensee. The premises extends over several buildings and 12.000m2 of forest.

Terms can range between 1 and 5 months while all forms of art are welcomed. At the end of the project, there will be a group exhibition of works created during the residency.
