Art through a new lens. Moi Aussi – a creative union between art and optics.

On June 20th, Etnia Barcelona – a unique, independent eyewear brand from Barcelona – presents Moi Aussi, a creative hub launched by Andrea Zampol D’Ortia in 2020. The project unites artists from all over the world by the usage of unusual canvas – a pair of glasses. This extraordinary form allows artists to experiment, and express their ideas and creative visions through an uncommon medium, allowing them to discover new paths on their artistic journey. Moi Aussi presents a visionary take on a common use object, transcending the boundaries of its everyday use, and creating a compelling space for artists.

Unique canvas.

Artists selected by Andrea Zampol D’Ortia and his team, come from different backgrounds and levels of experience. They are asked to get involved in an atypical space, however with a full creative freedom, limited only by their canvases – various models of glasses provided to them by Moi Aussi. Through this process artists-in-residence present their stories, and play around with form; sometimes creating a metatextual commentary, other times simply testing the limits of their medium and their own creativity. To date, the project has over fifty artists presenting their exceptional and inimitable artworks.

As Andrea Zampol D’Ortia states: “Moi Aussi… is a vibrant container of encounters, past experiences and lived places, where the artist’s freedom, instinct and awareness bring out the expression of his origins, the traditions of his culture and his soul. Thus, in the union of genius and dexterity, a unique and non-replicable work is born. I imagined to unite souls in a pure, ethical and spontaneous way, through the passage of an object of daily use, such as glasses. I have adopted a common language, that of Art, which allows artists from all over the globe to get to know each other, interact, share ideas and projects in the name of beauty.”

An inclusive, international art space.

Moi Aussi and Etnia Barcelona strive to create and sustain an inclusive space for artists from all over the globe in which they are given an opportunity to enhance their careers,  and inspire each other. To further contribute to the project, Etnia Barcelona has acquired the Church of Abbazia della Misericordia in Venice, which will be transformed into the new creative lab of Moi Aussi. Each year a jury composed of relevant figures from the art world, will select 24 artists (2 per month) from a list of applicants . The winners will have the opportunity to carry out a residency within the Church of Abbazia della Misericordia and create art projects thanks to the support of Moi Aussi. Each artist will produce 5 artworks that will be showcased to various international audiences. In addition, together with a designer of Etnia Barcelona, each artist will create a wearable model that will become a limited line that Etnia will sell worldwide.
