Artists for Ukraine How can we support the fighting country?

In the face of Russian invasion of Ukraine and above all the terror and suffering it has caused, institutions, companies, artists and designers are uniting by auctioning art to support relief efforts.

Taking note of the numerous art auctions organised for the benefit of Ukraine, we selected some of them that are especially worth taking interest in.

DESA Unicum auction in support of the Ukrainian refugees

DESA Unicum has decided to organise an auction to support people from Ukraine who arrive in Poland. Believing that everyone can help, the auction house wants to use the tools it has to provide real support.

The collected funds will be donated entirely to the Ocalenie Foundation (Fundacja Ocalenie), and DESA Unicum will not charge the auction fee for purchased works.

The Foundation’s activities will include first-line support work, such as basic social and integration assistance to people who have just arrived in Poland. The aim of this action is to provide constant attendance and immediate assistance of the volunteers at reception points and border crossings, where the Foundation’s activities are ongoing.

The auction will take place on 18th March (Friday) at 7:00 pm. It will be possible to participate both in-person and remotely.

SLAVA UKRAINI! Humanitarian help for Ukraine

A group of artists who run the czwartek gallery in Warsaw is raising money for Ukraine. As the answer to the events close to the Polish border, the artists decided to donate their gallery space to artists from Ukraine. The idea for the exhibition “Slava Ukraini” (which had its opening on 10 March) emerged spontaneously, as an act of solidarity with those who had to face the new tragic reality overnight.

Among the works that can be purchased to support the fundraising is a photograph by Sasha Kurmaz, winner of FOAM Talents, who sent his work to the czwartek gallery, which he took while hiding in a shelter in Kiev. Daniel Kosoy, on the other hand, shared a photograph of his best friend who took his own life because of Russian aggression.

Other artists whose photographs are available include: Synchrodogs, Yan Vasyukhnik, Genia Volkov, Max Dutka, Daria Svertilova, Lesha Berezovskiy, Yuliia Frolova, Valentine Bo, Kristina Podobed, Maksim Finogeev, Kris Vóitkiv, Elena Subach, Daniel Kotliar, Yulia Krivich, Anton Shebetko, Mishka Bochkaryov, Lisa Vlasenko, Nikita Sereda, Julie Poly, Victoria Pidust, Artem Nadyozhin, Gorsad.

You can purchase prints by Ukrainian artists at https://zrzutka.pl/verk95 for 300 PLN / 60 EUR (plus shipping). Each of them is printed on archival Moab Entrada Natural Rag 190 gsm paper in a limited edition of 100 pieces.

All profits (minus production and shipping costs) will be donated to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

ART FOR UKRAINE – charity fundraising created by Jocelyn McGregor

The fundraising was organised by a group of artists who met in 2019 and 2020 as part of the British Council’s SWAP UK/Ukraine Residency Programme. During their residencies in Ukraine, they had the opportunity to visit several cities, as well as meet and work with talented and welcoming people from all sectors – from creative, to academic. They decided to raise money by selling inexpensive artworks made by themselves and other artists from their community, who wanted to take part in the charity.

This fundraiser is their way of condemning Russian violence and showing solidarity with Ukrainian civilians. All profits raised from each artwork will go towards much needed medical support and supplies, and postage is included.

All proceeds will be shared between The Red Cross for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, and the production of care parcels to be sent by Nova Poshta.
