For the fifth issue of MINDSCAPES, we turn towards the hand – as a site of repetition, care, and persistence, but also of hesitation, error, and rupture. What does it mean to create in a world shaped by acceleration, automation, and immaterial production?
In this issue, we are particularly interested in what we call productive failure: moments when material resists, processes break down, and things fall apart – opening up new ways of thinking and making. We look at fractures not as endpoints, but as generative conditions.
We invite contributions that engage with craft, contemporary art, design, and cross-disciplinary practices, especially those grounded in material processes such as ceramics, textiles, and other forms of embodied making.
We are interested in, but not limited to:
- craft as resistance, care, or activism,
- hapticity and the return to touch,
- long-term relationships with a single medium,
- error, limitation, and time as artistic language,
- glitch aesthetics and technology.
We welcome:
- critical essays,
- texts on artistic and design practices,
- curator’s or artist’s perspectives – both critical and poetic reflections on contemporary culture.
