Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Wrapping Reichstag, project for Berlin (1971-1995)

One of Contemporary Lynx’s selections to highlight is an original photograph of Wrapping Reichstag, project for Berlin by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The photograph, signed by Christo, is framed on a background of original textile from the wrapping itself. It is accompanied by a project description in German and a biography of Christo and Jean-Claude on the back. Commenced in 1971 and completed in 1995, the Wrapping Reichstag project has become an iconic symbol of Germany and contemporary art. A team of 90 professional climbers and 120 installation workers undertook the challenge, and the Reichtag stood cloaked for 14 days.

The Empresses: H10-2 Nūr Jahān by Damien Hirst is part of a series of five laminated Giclée prints on aluminum composite, screen printed with glitter, featuring butterfly wings arranged to create a kaleidoscope effect. In the series, Hirst explores the butterfly as a symbol of freedom, religion, life, and death. The piece was named after Nūr Jahān of the Mughal Empire, Emperor Jahāngīr’s 20th wife. Although she was not officially an empress, she had a significant impact on the empire. The piece is hand-signed and numbered.

It was exhibited in BULVARY during Sieradzka’s master’s degree exhibition from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Poland. The acrylic on canvas painting is part of the artist’s series Eskalacja, which explores feelings of unease and imminent doom arising from the constant influx of tragic news in the media. Igor Mitoraj was a renowned Polish artist known for his sculptures and installations. His works can be found in Paris, Rome, Milan, Lausanne, London, Krakow, and Warsaw. Much of Mitoraj’s sculptures, usually marble and bronze, were created in large formats and exhibited in public spaces. Persée is a bronze patinated sculpture of a male torso. Invader, Rubik Camouflage (2023)

Invader, a pseudonymous French street artist, is known worldwide for his pixelated ceramic tile art. While many have speculated about the artist’s identity, little is known about him. The incognito creator graduated from École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and began his career in 1998. The preponderance of his work, mainly tile-based “graffiti,” appears on Parisian streets. However, Invader’s pieces can also be found in New York City, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong, and have been exhibited internationally. Rubik Camouflage is part of the artist’s Rubikubism series. The limited edition print measures 100 x 100 cm and is a Diasec-mounted Giclée print on aluminum, signed by the artist in his signature pixelated style, reminiscent of the 1980s.

Irma Blank, Germinazioni (1982)

The original mixed media, watercolor artwork Germinazioni by German-born Italian artist Irma Blank displays faded tones of green, grey, and beige, and bears a dedication to painter Gillo Dorfles. Blank’s conceptual work has been described as “drawing languages without words,” and it transgresses the limitations of writing or painting alone. This concept stemmed from the artist’s feeling that words are rarely enough to express oneself. Blank’s creations have been presented on a global scale in major institutions, including the Centre Pompidou, the Venice Biennale, and the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma.

Kaliya Ka, Cosmic Weightlessness (2024)

Kaliya Ka, born Kaliya Kalacheva, is a contemporary visual artist based in Sofia, Bulgaria. A graduate of Painting from the National Academy of Art in Sofia, she often concentrates in her work on repetition, memory, and metaphysical space, expressed through layered visual structures. Cosmic Weightlessness is a 100cm x 140 cm acrylic painting, hand signed, described by the artist as follows: “A layered abstract landscape unfolds beneath a star-speckled sky, where deep blues and greens blend into soft gradients of turquoise and muted earth tones. Sharp geometric divisions contrast with fluid, painterly textures, while a striking vertical neon line introduces a sense of tension and modernity.” The painting’s surface subtly changes with the angle of view.
