The annual FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain), one of the world’s most prestigious art fairs, came back to a live format after a break caused by the pandemic.
The new edition of the event has made a comeback with a new location; the fair was hosted by the Grand Palais Ephémère, Paris.
FIAC delivered a variety of creative initiatives, including a choice of outdoor works, performances, and conferences, to which the public was given open access.
One of the programs offered by the fair, FIAC Hors les Murs; invited visitors to explore a map of installations on display at Paris’ most famous spots, including the Tuileries Gardens, the Place Vendôme, the Place de la Concorde, and the Musée national Eugène Delacroix.
“The Louvre has played an important role as a part of FIAC Hors les Murs, the visits external to the FIAC. It consists of two major parts: the first, the displays in the Louvre Gardens, namely the Tuileries, the Carousel, but also in recent years, the Garden of the Musée Delacroix. (…) It [the Tuileries] has been a sculpture garden, more or less since its creation. So this is where the partnership was established, playing on various ways of presenting works of art. The presentation of artworks is always a hard choice, it must be said, because the garden is huge. We have this vast choice, which is wonderful as it comes from the FIAC and the galleries, to try to show artworks that wouldn’t otherwise be shown.”, said Dominique de Font-Réaulx, general curator at the Louvre Museum.
The FIAC 2021 Edition not only enhanced the experience, but also provided participants with the opportunity to participate virtually in the event by introducing FIAC Online Viewing Rooms.
The Fiac fair took place from October 21st to October 24th, 2021. Not only did the fair attract crowds but, also it showed the condition of the Paris art market. Many of the artworks were sold on the first day of the event.
