Kraków-based Manufaktura Porcelany is an open studio where traditional material meets modern design and a sense of humour. In here, time is measured by the rotation of the potter’s wheel. Manufaktura creates a characteristic porcelain that matches modern interiors and people with passion. We asked Liliana – the founder, about her daily routine, the most essential objects at work and what sucks.
Your morning routine…
A cup of Earl Grey in my favourite mug.
The first thing you do when you come to your studio…
Say hello to all my friends and neighbours, and share with them a big smile
Instagram, Fb or no social media?
Instagram and Fb, of course!
Magazines/books you read
I love beautiful printed magazines about art and design, full of illustrations and inspiration. My favourites include Contemporary Lynx, Kukbuk and Vogue.
Three objects which are essential at your work
Ceramic kiln, plaster and porcelain.
What are your favourite tools to help you to get the job done?
Sponge with water, sharp knife and sandpaper.
What inspires you and motivates you to get your work done?
I get inspired when I meet interesting people and when I travel. I’m also inspired by nature.
One funny story from your work
Once at a design fair a girl wanted to take our Paper Cup for free because she thought it was broken
The project you are working on right now?
Right now I am working on funny and light jewellery for girls and on modern everyday use objects.
What do you love about your job?
People I meet, freedom and my own time schedule.
What sucks?
When I send my unique products and they are delivered in pieces.
Hand-made or mass-production?
Always and forever hand-made!
Do you work individually or with a team?
In the workshop, I work alone but Manufaktura Porcelany is a 3-person team. We talk, think and work together and everyone has their own field.
How do you rest and relax after work?
With my friends and family.
Do you have advice for anybody who wants to work in your field?
Be stubborn, find partners and always listen to someone who is great with numbers!
