An immersive journey through time and space

Upon entering the monumental main hall, visitors are immediately enveloped in a 360-degree sensory experience. Ultra-high-resolution projections, enveloping soundscapes, and interactive elements create an environment that stimulates the senses and sparks curiosity. The exhibition unfolds across four meticulously crafted chapters, each chronicling a pivotal phase in the story of existence.

The journey begins with The Birth of the Universe, illustrating the chaotic yet magnificent moments following the Big Bang. Gigantic projections simulate the rapid expansion of space, accompanied by a dynamic orchestral soundtrack that heightens the immersive effect. The next phase, Formation of the Sun and Earth, explores the cosmic events that led to the creation of our solar system. Visitors witness volcanic eruptions, colliding asteroids, and shifting tectonic plates brought to life through vivid animations and surround sound. This segment highlights the unique conditions that made Earth a habitable planet, setting the stage for life to flourish.

The third chapter, Emergence of Complex Organisms, focuses on the evolution of life, from simple single-celled organisms to intricate multicellular beings. Time-lapse projections showcase these transformations, with magnified depictions of microscopic movements that highlight the beauty and complexity of biological diversity. Appearance of the First Life Forms concludes the narrative, celebrating the dawn of life on Earth and emphasising the delicate balance and serendipity that made it possible. This section features scientific data visualisation, allowing visitors to explore evolutionary processes in an immersive way and leaving them with a renewed appreciation for the intricate tapestry of existence.

Visionary artists behind ORIGINS

Under the artistic direction of Markos Kay, ORIGINS represents a collaborative effort among some of the world’s most esteemed digital artists, like Martin Salfity, renowned for his abstract visualisations, who brings a unique perspective on cosmic phenomena using fractal simulations to explore the mathematical foundations of the universe. Davy Evans contributes his expertise in blending organic and digital elements, creating mesmerising visuals that capture the essence of life’s complexity. His fluid simulations, resembling cellular interactions and the birth of galaxies, seamlessly bridge the micro and macro scales of existence.

Thomas Vanz specialises in astrophysical imagery, delivering breathtaking slow-motion sequences that portray stellar formations and cosmic events with hypnotic beauty. Gokhan Tekin, also known as Koko_3d, brings depth and realism to the exhibition’s portrayal of early life forms. His vivid depictions of prehistoric oceans and primordial landscapes immerse visitors in the ancient environments where life began, offering a tangible connection to Earth’s distant past.

Teun van der Zalm complements this with dynamic fluid simulations that recreate the atmospheric conditions of early Earth. His visualisations provide a captivating glimpse into the planet’s primordial environments, allowing visitors to witness the turbulent yet essential forces that shaped our world. Susi Sie uses macroscopic analogue photography to merge art and science, capturing intricate details of natural phenomena through organic textures and evolving biological patterns, highlighting the beauty and complexity of life’s building blocks.

Jesse Solomon Clark enhances the sensory experience with immersive soundscapes that respond dynamically to visitor movement. His harmonious auditory compositions envelop visitors, creating an evolving soundtrack that complements the visual journey. Roman Hill completes the ensemble with innovative digital artworks that fuse contemporary aesthetics with scientific visualisation. His creations add a modern dimension to the exhibition, blending artistic expression with data-driven representations of life’s origins.

Together, these artists employ a myriad of techniques, including 3D design, artificial intelligence, and macroscopic analogue photography, to craft an experience that is both educational and emotionally resonant. Their combined expertise transforms complex scientific concepts into accessible art, sparking curiosity and wonder. The incorporation of interactive elements, such as touch-sensitive panels and AR enhancements, further deepens the engagement of visitors. These features invite audiences to become active participants in the narrative, making the journey through life’s origins a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.
