172 Artwork From The Permanent Collection Of The National Museum Of Contemporary Art in Athens photostory

The exhibition of the permanent collection at the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST) includes 172 artworks created by 78 Greek and foreign artists which are focused on the following topics: Memories – Claims  – Political narratives, Limits and passages and Eterotopias – Mythology of the familiar – New perspectives.

The EMST’s website is now fully updated including all information about the artworks that form the museum’s collection along with their creators. At present, the collection counts about 1.300 artworks, 965 of them belonging to the field of Painting and Three-dimensional Artworks, 323 to the field of Photography and New Media, 8 to the field of Architecture and Industrial Design, all of them created by 151 Greek and 105 foreign artists. 

The first artworks of the EMST Collection were acquired when the museum started its operation in 2000. The first work was inserted in 11.10.2000. The Museum’s constantly growing collection is formed around a very important nucleus of works by Greek and international artists, such as Jannis Kounellis, Stephen Antonakos, Gary Hill, Vlassis Caniaris, Chryssa, Mona Hatoun, Emily Jacir, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Kim Sooja, Nikos Kessanlis, Shirin Neshat, Lucas Samaras, Costas Tsoclis, Bill Viola, Joseph Kosuth, Pedro Cabrita Reiss, Costas Varotsos, George Lappas, Oliver Ressler, Gulsun Karamustafa a.o.
