Shifting Territories. Circulation(s) Photo Festival 2025 in Paris.

Each edition of the first French festival dedicated to emerging European photography reveals an evolving, multifaceted, and moving portrait of our shared experiences, presenting a renewed vision of the collective imagination. Circulation(s) returns with its fifteenth edition to bring together artists from all over Europe.

The contemporary photography festival Circulation(s) makes its annual comeback to the multipurpose art space Centquatre-Paris. The event, founded in 2011, was initiated by the Fetart collective, now an essential actor in the French contemporary scene. Fetart continues to be in charge of the curation – the international group show offers young photographers a space to share their work and gain visibility. Apart from the exhibition, known for its inclusive and engaging programme, the festival proposes workshops, portfolio reviews, and conferences.

Given the realities of 2025, the relationships between individuals, populations and territories naturally emerge within contemporary photography. This year’s festival edition addresses those territorial transitions through the lens of the individual and that of the collective. The presented pieces challenge our view of modern order, exploring the co-dependence of humans and artificial intelligence, cultural displacement, or media-induced dehumanisation.

“We make a point of welcoming different testimonies and perspectives to each edition, enabling us to renew our perceptions”, the organisers say. As such, although mainly focused on European artists, the festival also features non-European photographers, with this year’s selection including artists from Lebanon, China, and Colombia. Additionally, in 2025, Circulation(s) is giving voice to the Franco-Caribbean generation, reclaiming their historical narrative.

Every edition also features a unique focus on a chosen European country, with its past three editions casting light on Ukraine (2024), Bulgaria (2023), and Armenia (2022). This year, the focus is on emerging photographers from Lithuania. This Baltic country’s dedication to welcoming Ukrainian refugees stands both as a continuation of last year’s impactful spotlight and a crossroads where the urgent questions of history, current events, and Europe’s future intersect.  Each of the four selected artists in the Focus on Lithuania section explores the notion of territory, whether with more literary means, illustrating the realities of war refugees, or through capturing the unknown territory that life reveals after loss.

Circulation(s) explores contemporary issues through the eyes of emerging European photographers. Moreover, each year, a series of events is organised in parallel with the exhibitions – photo studios, workshops, masterclasses, portfolio readings, performances, screenings, and more. To continue supporting the professionalisation of photographer artists, there are meetings, advice sessions, and exchanges.

Offering an open artistic vision – rich in contrasts and trends, the Festival presents artists of 14 different nationalities:

Émeline Ametis (France), Sama Beydoun (Lebanon), Cendre (France), Anouk Durocher (France), Aubane Filée (Belgium), Giulia Frigieri (Italy), Claudia Fuggetti (Italy), Jakob Ganslmeier (Germany) & Ana Zibelnik (Slovenia), Artem Humilevskyi (Ukraine), Tomasz Kawecki (Poland), Manuela Lorente (Spain), Isabella Madrid (Colombia), Lesia Pčołka (Belarus), Lucija Rosc (Slovenia), Ola Skowrońska (Poland), Valentin Valette (France), Tianyu Wang (China), Wendie Zahibo (France), Ieva Baltaduonyte (Lithuania), Agnė Gintalaitė (Lithuania), Paulius Petraitis (Lithuania), and Visvaldas Morkevicius (Lithuania).
