THE ABC’S OF POLISH DESIGN

The exhibition THE ABC’S OF POLISH DESIGN shows the best of Polish design – from furniture, glass, and porcelain to written texts, logos, children’s toys, sports equipment, and even candy. Contemporary designs will be on display alongside classics, one-of-a-kind objects and artworks, prototypes, and fondly remembered everyday articles from the past century. As a commentary on these design icons, the exhibition will also include visual interpretations of 25 selected contemporary Polish illustrators and graphic designers. Organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, co-organised by the Gdynia Design Centre and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.

VR Cricoterie

Vienna Design Week will introduce VR Cricoterie, an application and multimedia installation dedicated to the original creative world of Tadeusz Kantor. Cricoterie is an online game inspired by performances of the experimental theatre Cricot2. It was produced by the studio of computer game developers Tale of Tales in collaboration with the Tadeusz Kantor Foundation and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

Studio Rygalik
part of the Passionswege / main festival programme

studio rygalik

STUDIO RYGALIK develops a wide variety of projects, constructs prototypes and produces limited editions. Through design they strive to achieve stimulating and long-lasting functional results with minimal means, often by challenging the material properties, structure and by experimenting with new processes. The aim is to build relationships only with a select group of companies in the sector, while preserving the studio’s integrity, sticking to its values and vision. The team remains on the fringe of the distinctly commercial activities described above while engaging in cultural practices and building its experimental identity. The focus is on furniture, spaces and products. Recently the studio also aims to explore the relations of food and design, and experiment in that field.

Studio Falbanka – player

Izabela Sroka and Julia Cybis, founders of the Polish design studio Falbanka, are inspired most importantly by the beauty of Poland’s capital city and the surrounding landscape. In its projects, the studio combines traditional and modern elements while focusing on details and high quality. Believing in the strengths of local crafts, Falbanka produces all its items in Poland. At the Łódź Design Festival 2018, Sroka and Cybis received an award for their patches, which can be seen at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2018.

Works from the Gaby and Wilhelm Schürmann Collection

23 June 23 2018 to 11 November 2018

Gaby and Wilhelm Schürmann do not see their collection as just private property or a prestige object, but rather as an item of cultural value that needs exchange with the public. Their collection has been continuously growing since the late 1970s, and it provides an incomparable view of the development of contemporary art from the 1980s onward.
